What is satisfaction? Why is it that we are not able to be satisfied with whatever I do?’, ‘It was an autumn after I passed out of my professional college and I was frustrated with being jobless. I felt I had enough qualifications to get a good job but, there I was hopping companies in search of a job. Nothing was working out. Finally I went in for an interview to a home cleaning job and I got it. I knew that the package was extremely good just because the job was dirty. But I had no choice.

After about 2 years in the job, I got a mail from my college inviting me for a batch mates meet. It was sunday, and I was extremely anxious to meet my batchmates. After an evening enjoying with them, we decided we would meet again, just the five of us who were the best of friends, as it was a long time that we met.

As we sat at the coffee table the next evening, we discussed a lot of things and eventually came onto the most preferred topic of discussion for a group – cribbing about everything that is dissatisfied about their jobs and life.
All my friends were working in good organizations and in good positions but had to slog and were not being paid as handsomely as I was. but I never had to slog. My friends were dissatisfied about having to slog and I was dissatisfied about my profile.

After about 11 years we met again in the same coffee shop. By then I had started a home-cleaning business of my own and I was working almost 18 hrs a day. A few of my friends were directors and Senior Managers. We were still dissatisfied. I for having to slog and my friends, ought of the feeling that their ideas were never accepted and that they had no personal growth and were being paid for nothing.

After he finished his story, he asked me, “Now what according to you is satisfaction and when is it that you will be satisfied”?

The question was puzzling and made me think for a few minutes as to what exactly satisfaction was.

I got the answer at a session that I attended about a couple of months back.
Ask me and I would today say that “Satisfaction” was a state of mind. Just like water has a state – Solid, liquid and vapour, Mind too, has a lot of states and satisfaction and dissatisfaction are just states of your mind.

How is it that water changes states? When you subject it to temperature. Let’’s call temperature as exertion. When you subject your mind to exertion, you change the state of mind. So satisfaction or, dissatisfaction depends upon the level of exertion that you put your mind into. If you feel you are dissatisfied today, and subject your mind to extreme exertion, then just don”t refrain from doing it. Keep it going. Gradually you would reach a state where you would find reasons for satisfaction from what you doing. Probably that is why, some wise men said, “You have the right to be dissatisfied because dissatisfaction is what will be the foundation of your satisfaction for tomorrow.

So decide what is the exertion level that you want you mind to be subjected to and you would be able to decide if you want to be satisfied or, otherwise.

It is said that maintaining the winning momentum helps you to keep winning. Is this true and does it hold valid in all situations?’, ‘

“Winners don”t do different things; They do things differently”. This is a statement that any book of positive thinking would start with. Nobody would want to disagree to the fact that this is true and is important if you want to win.

Another statement that one would hear a lot of times is that, “maintaining the winning momentum would help you keep winning”. Now if you read the above two statements one after the other, doesn”t it sound contradictory. If winners are the ones who do things differently, then what is the relevance in maintaining a winning momentum. Even if they loose once, they would know how to win the next time because they would know that they have to do something different if they are to win.

As I sat before my television watching a game of cricket, the last of the league matches in a tournament, between the mighty Australians and the once mighty West Indies, I heard the commentators say that the Australians would want to maintain the winning momentum before they go into the finals. Australia lost the match and I asked myself, “Would it be difficult for Australia to win against another team in the finals, whom they have already beaten convincingly in the league matches?” Probably not. They would for sure win convincingly again and they did. Then what is therelevance of the “Winning momentum”.

Winning has nothing to do about momentum. But I have strong reasons to believe that consistent winners develop a sense of complacency at times and a tend to loose. But this loss helps them regain their confidence and fight back again to get to the top spot. So winning is not about winning consistently. Rather it is about knowing that you have to do something different and extra to win. It is about deciding that you want to win. It is about a decision – a decision to remain on top.

‘Confidence’ is an abstract term. What is confidence? Is there a set formula to develop confidence in you? This is a question anybody would ask when we talk about high and low confidence.’, ‘

It was the starting of the Indian Premier League. The entire tournament involved huge money. There were a lot of good players playing for the various participating teams and these players were being paid huge amounts of money. Because the tournament involved such huge amounts of money, the expectations were also high. There were certain teams studded with stars and there were certain other that had no or, less tsart in their teams. These teams were hence ranked based on their star value. Once such team was the “Rajasthan Royals”. They were being called as the “underdogs”. With no so-called stars in their team, theirs was the only team without a coach. A team filled with young domestic players were up against star studded teams.

It was the first match for the “Rajasthan Royals”. As the match ended, I started to realize the reason why this team was being called the “underdogs”. The Rajasthan royals had lost, though not by a huge margin. I felt, this team cannot win. They are there to loose.

Today, as I write this article the Rajasthan Royals have played 6 matches and have won 5 out of then and were topping the score board. Difficult to believe for me and so it would be for anybody. What is it that made it happen? My brother said, “They were oozing with confidence”. So I assume it was “Confidence” that made this happen.

So what is Confidence? How is that inducted into us and into a team that were born to loose? These were questions that were difficult to answer. A “motivational guru” would tell you that you build it in you. But he would still be unable to explain to you, ”how”.

Confidence comes with winning. It comes with you believing that you can win. It comes with that minute bit of hope that you have that you can win. What would have happened of the Rajasthan Royals was thus. The team lost to one the best teams in the tournament by a narrow margin which made them think that they were in with a chance. It was that gentle little push that they lacked because of which they lost. When they walked into the next match they knew that all that they had to do was, ”do what they did” in the last match and ”add a gentle little push”. They worked on their plan and the result was that they won. This was all that they required. The matches to follow were no problem because one win had inducted that confidence in them and it only grew with every passing match.

Confidence is indeed abstract. When you have lost a couple of times, you are low in confidence. Just sit down for a minute and identify that one aspect where you were better than your opponent. Tell yourself how important this attribute was and how dominant you were in this attribute. You will start to feel like a ”King”. Go out and look for that first win. One win and you are into the competition.

Confidence comes with winning. So if you want to build your confidence, then first learn to win. Find that edge that you posses which will help you win. Polish it and make it your primary weapon. Fight like a knight and use this weapon at all times. You will find that you are confident.

This ageless question still remained unanswered for her.

As in the tradition of the species, her nest was located high upon the shelf of a sheer rock face. Below there was nothing but air to support the wings of each child.”Is it possible that this time it will not work?” she thought. Despite her fears, the eagle knew it was time. Her parental mission was all but complete. There remained one final task -the push.

The eagle drew courage from an innate wisdom. Until her children discovered their wings, there was no purpose for their lives. Until they learned how to soar, they would fail to understand the privilege of having been born an eagle. The push was the greatest gift she had to offer. It was her supreme act of love. And so, one by one, she pushed them and they flew.

These lines hold good for us human beings also. We would play safe always and given a chance would only tread the easiest path. How we realize our full potential depends upon the push that we get. We should also be aware that there are people who want the same push from us too, in order to realize their full potential

What does it take to be there for the last laugh? Probably its is something basic that our cricketers or, for that matter most of the sportspersons in India lack.

Cricket is in our blood. We live and die cricket. But then why is it that we are being called as chokers. Why is it that we let it go at the final frontier? Probably it has something to do in our genes.

The just concluded India Vs England series was one such example. We were 3-1 behind and then we played like champions to equalize at 3-3 only to choke in the final decider and loose convincingly.

We could only score about 187 odd runs and couldn”t threaten the English batting line up at all. We lost the match.

Is this because we lack the killer instinct? Probably yes. We have always lacked it. Just imagine a match where 2 of our best in form and top most batsmen being given out by an umpire by mistake and we walking out of the match because of this just taking it into our stride. How much acceptable is it? Had this been with any other country, there would have been a protest. Look at the English captain who in the 6th ODI protested at the umpire when he called for a 3rd umpire decision after seeing the replay in the big screen in the stadium. Would Sachin Tendulkar have done it. Probably no. we would have dismissed it off as being part of a game.

Its time to wake up, friends. We need more of Sreesanths and Zaheers who would just not give it away like that.We are merging as the champions on all fronts.We are the best in anything,then why should we let it go just like that.
