Trip to Palaruvi Waterfalls in Kerala

Personal

Just came back from another memorable trip to Kerala. The trip was oriented towards visits to a few temples and religious places. In the otherwise hectic schedule, we were able to take some time out to visit the Palaruvi waterfalls near Kollam. This is a tourist destination and is about 75 Kms South of Kollam District.

Some moments that we captured in our Fujifilm Finepix S9600 -

I Joined PETA..

Animal care

I received this forwarded email a couple of days back. As my habit is, I would have just deleted the email, just because it had a “Fwd:” in the subject and I knew it was one of those chain emails that I hate to spend time reading. Just that one word in the subject caught my attention and I opened the email. The word was “PETA”. I knew it would be carrying some information.

The Slumdog Millionaire Fairytale

Movies

Slumdog Millionaire

When I was a kid a fairytale for me was the story of “Thumbalina” or, “Snow White and Dwarfs”. Times have changed. For my nephew, who is 6 years old, a fairytale is the story of Jamal Malik – The Slumdog Millionaire. Yes, indeed times have changed.

Rahman at Oscars

Rahman at Oscars

After all the Oscars and the Bafta awards, I have still not come to terms with what has been happening. Till about 4-5 months back, “The Slumdog Millionaire” was just another movie. All of a sudden in such short time, it has become one of the most talked about movie. With 8 Oscars in the kitty, it is indeed worth being the talk of the town. But what made the movie an Oscar winner is still a question mark at least for a common man like me.

A promising model Mariana Bridi da Costa dies

Fashion

One month ago, 20-year-old beauty queen Mariana Bridi was living the dream of many young Brazilian women, trading her striking good looks for a modeling career that promised to lift her family out of poverty.

Then she contracted a seemingly ordinary urinary tract infection. The bacteria spread quickly and inexorably through her body, proving to be extremely resistant to drugs. In a desperate bid to save her life, doctors amputated her hands and feet. But by Saturday she was dead.

Master cleanse weight loss technique

Health & Nutrition

There are a lot of techniques for weight loss. Some prefer dieting while some others exercising. Master cleanse is another way of loosing fat. This is otherwise called as “Lemonade Diet” also This technique of loosing weight was made famous by Beyonce Knowles, after she used it to loose weight to prepare for her movie roles.
The master cleanse weight loss technique revolves around fasting for about 10 days and drinking a formulated lemonade drink. This drink is made up of water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, Maple Syrup and Cayenne pepper.
The master cleanse weight loss technique helps you in loosing weight by cleaning your digestive tract especially the colon. The entire system is not actually meant to help you loose weight, rather it is used to cleanse the colon. But in doing this your body looses some weight thus helping you achieve two goals – cleansing and weight loss.
Once Master Cleanse ends, you will notice a bit of weight loss. That weight loss is the result of all the waste that you were carrying around that made you tired and sluggish before you did the Master Cleanse.
There is a common misconception that the master cleanse weight loss method is some kind of a harmful, modern day technique developed by some money-minded individual but the fact is that fasting has been there for years. Hindu mythology has a lot to mention about fasting. So is the Chinese history. So fasting is not something new. Master cleanse weight loss is only a modified version of fasting.
But what is to be borne in mind while adopting the master cleanse weight loss technique is that you should not do it if you are too weak for it as is the case with regular fasting as well.
The Master Cleanse weight loss can prepare your body for a long-term weight management program.

My Favorite Poems

Ode to the West Wind

This is one of the best poems written by P.B.Shelley. His description of the nature and the evening in this poem is beautiful.’, ‘

I

O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn”s being,
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,

Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes: O thou,
Who chariotest to their dark wintry bed

The winged seeds, where they lie cold and low,
Each like a corpse within its grave, until
Thine azure sister of the Spring shall blow

My Favorite Poems

On a Poet’s Lips I Slept

P.B.Shelley has been one of my alltime favorite poets. His poems carried a touching meaning in it and was an easy read and understand. “On a Poet”s Lips I Slept” he talks about how a poet gives birth to his creations from nothing.’, ‘On a poet”s lips I slept
Dreaming like a love-adept
In the sound his breathing kept;
Nor seeks nor finds he mortal blisses,
But feeds on the aerial kisses
Of shapes that haunt thought”s wildernesses.
He will watch from dawn to gloom
The lake-reflected sun illume
The yellow bees in the ivy-bloom,
Nor heed nor see what things they be;
But from these create he can
Forms more real than living man,
Nurslings of immortality!
One of these awakened me,
And I sped to succour thee.

Nostalgia

An Onam in Kerala

It was 12th of September 2008. A day I can never forget. I was born a Keralite but had always lived in North India since birth. My upbringing was in various parts of North India and it is not uncommon for people from a state migrating to a different state in search of jobs, to forget their hometown and the culture that their basic caste followed and practiced. It was not different with me either, and I knew my culture only to the extent it was practiced in my house. Though my parents ensured that they inculcate all of these into me, we often found that we had to compromise on lot of things because something that was practiced in our culture was done differently in the culture that I was living in. But no regrets, because I feel that is where diversity comes in and diversity is what we Indians are know for.

The Companionship of the Music Box

As I spent my summer vacation this time in my native home, I was digging through the many wealth in the store room of the house to find things that were of my interest. I suddenly stumbled upon a huge box of the size of about 2 feet. As I cleaned the dust of it, I discovered that it was a radio. I couldn’t have left it there because the memories attached with that radio was much more that with anything else that I could find.
